Unwrapped

“Don’t judge a book by its cover.”  How many times have we heard and used this axiom?  More times than we can count I am sure!  In my maiden blog posting I shared how my mother worked hard to instill this into the core values of her five children.  It isn’t always easy to do and too often we can find ourselves getting caught up in the moment, slipping into that state of judgement.

So here is the challenge: in this day of rampant expose via all the social media outlets, is it possible to get to ‘know’ someone beyond the outer persona before judging?  Whoa, and, wait for it, who are we to judge?

I do believe there are methods to peel away the layers, even of those individuals in the public domain, and obtain a better understanding of what makes them tick.

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.  Name ring a bell?  She is Lady Gaga.  To some she may border on the outrageous, some may have no interest in knowing what makes this young woman tick, others may embrace her sense of unique style and independence, and many, may have already condemned her.  Take moment to get to know this young Shenomenal Woman and you will see that she has a level of wisdom not often present in a young person of just 26 years of age.

From a young age Lady Gaga’s creative energy was manifested in many different ways often causing her supportive and loving parents to wonder if their Stefani was ok.  They new their daughter was on a journey laid before her, a path she had no choice but to follow if she were to stay true to who she was meant to be.  And Stefani knew they would always be there for her when she needed them.

Bullied as a young teen, Lady Gaga does not embrace the title of ‘victim’ and while she recognizes the plight of the victim she is challenging us all to try to understand the nature of the bully, too often victims as well.  To that end, in 2011, she partnered with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, to launch the “Born this Way Foundation” whose mission is ‘to foster a more accepting society, where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated. The Foundation is dedicated to creating a safe community that helps connect young people with the skills and opportunities they need to build a braver, kinder world.

We believe that everyone has the right to feel safe, to be empowered and to make a difference in the world. Together, we will move towards acceptance, bravery and love.’

I invite you take a few moments, log onto the Foundation’s web site and learn more about this growing movement, after all who would not like to live in braver, kinder world?

“I am always conscious of empowering people around me.  I want everyone on my team to know that they all play the same equal part that I play in making everything happen that happens every day.”    Lady Gaga, Shenomenal Woman
